HARARE, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Xin Shunkang, on Thursday launched preparations for the 30th anniversary celebrations of China-Zimbabwe diplomatic relations.

The celebrations, which coincide with Zimbabwe's 30th anniversary of its independence, may also see the Chinese national football team play against the Zimbabwe Warriors in a friendly match, even though no dates had been set.

Xin outlined activities to be done during the year, including the full implementation of the new eight-point plan enunciated by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the 4th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Egypt last year.

The eight-point plan, which succeeds the old one announced by Chinese President Hu Jintao at the 2006 Beijing FOCAC summit, focuses on climate change and sustainable development, trade, infrastructure, education, science and technology, agricultural technology, debt cancellation for highly-indebted poor countries, human resources development and health services support.

Chinese embassy officials have since met with senior Zimbabwe government officials, the academia and business leaders to review the plan and the parties agreed to establish a think-tank to facilitate the implementation of partnership programs.

The think-tank, to include academics and members of the business community, will advise the Chinese embassy on the effective implementation catalog printing of projects in line with the country's needs.

"For instance, our two countries just signed two agreements on the provision of a 315-million RMB Yuan (46 million U.S. dollars) concessional loan and the 50 million RMB Yuan (7.35 million U.S. dollars) grant respectively to support (mobile phone service provider) NetOne expand its network coverage and implement the projects to be agreed upon through consultations between the two governments," Xin said at his first Press conference since he arrived in Zimbabwe five months ago.

He added that the construction of two solar power projects, the further support for Chinese financial institutions in setting up a special fund for small and medium scale Zimbabwean businesses and the provision of an agricultural technology team would be done within the framework of the celebrations.

"Most importantly, the 5th Joint Commission between China and Zimbabwe is set to be held in May 2010 to further stimulate bilateral investment," he added.

China was also planning to issue the Commemorative Cover to mark the 30-year-long bilateral relations, invite one top Chinese arts troupe to postcard printing attend this year's edition of the Harare International Festival of the Arts and hold a film festival, during which at least four Chinese films will be shown in Harare and Bulawayo.

Relations between China and Zimbabwe date back to the pre- independence era, with China providing military assistance to Zimbabwean liberation fighters.

During the last three years, China provided approximately 300 million U.S. dollars to the Zimbabwean government in aid.

You first may be asking: what qualifies me as a Yellow Page expert? I worked as an advertising consultant for a Bell System division for nearly 25 years. During that time, I counseled about 3000 businesses in advertising design, marketing programs, and promotional campaigns. I was a top performer for about half that time and won numerous awards and honors. With that background, let me discuss the unique media known as directory advertising.
In my market, we had about 80,000 businesses represented in the local city Yellow Pages. That's a large sector of companies fairly reliant on a single product used by over 80% of the population. The Yellow Pages is a reliable constant that is relatively unchanged since its inception over 100 years ago. Back then, it was a list of companies and their ads, bound together in book form, and sent for free to every resident with a phone. Today, it serves the same function: a current resource for business information.
The only difference is the addition of full-color and the replication on the Internet. Otherwise, it's your father's Yellow Pages. It began as a byproduct of the phone company's need to get the their subscribers' phone numbers out to the general public. Then someone realized the value of actual ads that would offer additional facts such as hours, products, services, and locations. Presently, many businesses rely on their Yellow Page ads, exclusively.
This is especially true for emergency service companies such as plumbers, electricians, and appliance repairers. Lately, more and more professionals like attorneys, dentists and plastic surgeons have discovered the power of this prevalent media. For them, it is a somewhat reasonable alternative to television and other mass media. Their ROI (return on investment) is high as is their exposure to every potential client. Most of this information is fairly common knowledge and a reminder of what the Yellow Pages means to the average user. The rest is not, hence the reason for this article.
Here are some lesser-known facts I'd like to share as my part in educating the public:
(1) The placement and size of the ad has no bearing on the quality of the business.
(2) Therefore, anyone with lots of money can get an ad, regardless of qualifications.
(3) In fact, some of the largest companies in town only have a simple listing.
(4) The advertiser can make outrageous claims, even if they're lies.

(6) Many businesses with an "A" name do so only to be placed first in a heading.
(7) Words like "official, authentic, only, quality, & qualified" are often meaningless.
(8) Just because they have a logo like "GE" doesn't mean they are GE approved.
(9) Ads with many phone numbers for different locations may only have one location.
(10) A business claiming they are 25 years old, may actually be brand new.
So, the next time you pick up the Yellow Pages to make a purchase, be an educated consumer and know how the ads are placed and what they really mean. Or, if you are a business-person, learn what type of ad to run and how much to pay. Either way, the mystery of the Yellow Pages will no longer be confusing to an outsider: you'll be on the inside.

Three retired Hanham men have teamed up to create a lasting tribute to a wartime airman.

It was August 26, 1944, when the airman died after bailing out of a burning Wellington bomber which crashed near Keynsham in Somerset.

He was found dead in Hencliffe Woods, Hanham Green, by retired Cadbury worker Malcolm Williams, who was nine catalog printing years old at the time.

And now many decades on, Malcolm and two friends have teamed up to finally create a lasting tribute to the wartime air man.

He said he ran back home and told his father: "Dad, there's a man asleep in the woods with blood coming from his nose."

Mr Williams, now 76, of Common Road, showed a friend, John Cummins, the spot where he found the RAF sergeant 65 years ago.

Mr Cummins, 70, a retired printer of Whittucks Road, said he sometimes made a point of marking the Clip on charms two-minute silence at 11am on Armistice Day by standing near the spot where the airman died. He has since become intrigued about who the airman was but could never find out his identity.

He found out about the Hanham Local History Society after reading a noticeboard near the woods and decided to contact the group's treasurer, Roy Crew.

Mr Crew, 63, made some inquiries and discovered that the airman was Frank Samuel Martin, 28, from Kent who was one replica bag wholesale of six crew aboard the bomber which was returning home after a mission in Normandy.

It is believed the plane might have been lost on its way back to its base at Chipping Warden, near Banbury, and could have been following the River Avon to find its bearings.

It was caught in searchlights shortly before it entered into an almost vertical dive and crashed at Lower Uplands near Keynsham. One of the theories is that it might have been shot down by friendly fire, although there is no evidence to prove this.

Two of the crew baled out, one of whom was Sgt Martin.

The rest of the crew perished with the burning plane which was excavated during the 1980s.

Mr Cummins had a small plaque made which has been fixed to a wooden cross that Mr Williams had made by staff at Harveys Shopfitters, a firm near his home where he now works as a part-time cleaner. Mr Williams said: "The cross is a tribute to the airman who died. I always think about what happened every time I walk past the spot."

It was first flown on June 15, 1936 and its last flight was in March 1953.

A total of 11,461 Wellingtons were built, the last of which rolled out on October 13, 1945.

Some 1,332 were lost in action during more than 47,000 operations with Bomber Command during World War II.
